Support your local McMinnville restaurants while using reusable takeout containers

Avoid single-use containers. Bring reusable containers when ordering take-out!

Do you hate all the plastic that comes with ordering your favorite take-out? Are you interested in using just a few stainless steel and silicone containers for your take-out, both from your corner coffee shop and your go-to Thai restaurant?

Reusable container companies, like Forever Ware, work with restaurants to eliminate single-use food containers.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Pay a $5 deposit for a stainless steel to-go container when you have left overs after a dinner out or when ordering take-out

  2. Bring that container back the next time you eat out at any participating restaurant in McMinnville

  3. Get your $5 back

  4. Repeat! Reuse these containers again and again without adding plastic to landfills.

For companies who have switched to Forever Ware, those restaurants have seen up to 80% yearly savings in food container costs.

Switching to Forever Ware, or other non-plastic single-use containers, is also safer for customers. Hot food and beverages that are served in plastic poison the contents. Harmful chemicals are released in food and liquid when the plastic is warmed. By taking home take-out in stainless steel containers, you are eliminating toxins in your diet.

With eliminating single-use plastic from your restaurants and kitchens, you are also keeping millions of pieces of plastic out of landfills.

Frequently asked questions:

1. What condition do you need to return your Forever Ware reusable in?

The container does not need to be spotless; when you drop it off, the restaurant will clean and sanitize.

2. Is there a timeline to return?

There is no timeline to return it!

3. Is there a map on where you can return?

You can return it to any restaurant who utilizes Forever Ware.  As restaurants add themselves to the program, we will update a list on the Zero Waste McMinnville website for you to see which restaurants are participating.  You can return the container to any participating restaurant; it does not need to be the same container nor the restaurant you originally ordered from.  Restaurants will also have a sticker in their window to show that they participate in Forever Ware.  If they don’t, ask them to participate!

4. Will I burn my hands on the container?

No!  The cups are double-walled, so a hot beverage, such as coffee or tea, will not burn your hands.  If you are ordering soup to-go, your soup will also go in the cup.  For other hot foods fresh out of the oven, the single-walled container will not burn your hands.

5. How do I get my deposit back?

Your deposit can remain in your account as a credit until you're ready to check out your next container.  If you prefer to cash out any accumulated credits, visit the Forever Ware Refund Page.

6. How do I return my container if I’m ordering takeout?

You have to go into a participating restaurant to return it.

7. What if I’m ordering multiple to-go items?

You will pay a separate $5 deposit for each container that you choose to include in your order.  You will receive that deposit back for every container.  You can choose to include one container, or as many containers as calls for your order.  Every little bit counts!

8. How do we order takeout?

If you are ordering online from a restaurant that participates, the option will be included on your online order.

9. How do I check my Forever Ware account balance?

You can ask a participating restaurant to check.

10. Are reusables really better than compostables?

Yes, science shows that while using compostables keeps plastic out of the environment, it forces us to cut down more trees, creating more climate pollution, or using more toxic chemicals.  Additionally, most compostable takeout containers and silverware can only be composted by a high-heat facility. Unfortunately, the current Recology McMinnville compost location is not a high-heat facility.  Many compostable takeout containers simply end up in a landfill, where they can’t break down due to the absence of oxygen.

On the other hand, non-toxic/non-plastic reusables, such as Forever Ware's stainless steel containers, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, water use, resource extraction, and waste.
